My journey began as a migrant with a simple dream: to own a home and provide stability for my family.
Like many migrants, I spent years renting and living with uncertainty. One experience that stayed with me was being told that the property we were renting was going on the market. Every weekend, we had to leave our home to make way for open homes. Strangers would walk through the house, open cupboards and wardrobes containing our personal belongings, and inspect the place while we waited outside. Before every viewing, we spent extra time cleaning and preparing the property, knowing that the home we lived in wasn't truly ours.
It was during those moments that I realized how much I wanted a place to call our own.
At the same time, I was juggling debt, managing household expenses, and trying to make sense of my finances. Growing up, I was never taught how to budget, manage money, reduce debt, or build wealth. It wasn't taught at home, and it wasn't taught at school. Like many people, I learned through trial and error, mistakes, setbacks, and financial stress.
But those experiences became some of my greatest teachers.
Through budgeting, financial discipline, and smarter financial decisions, I was able to achieve homeownership and take control of my finances. Purchasing our first home was more than achieving a personal goal—it became the turning point that changed our family's future.
Over time, that first property became the foundation for building a property portfolio, creating long-term financial security for our family, and providing rental homes for other families looking for a place to call home.
Along the way, I discovered that homeownership is about much more than having a roof over your head. When approached with the right strategy, it can become a stepping stone to financial security, wealth creation, and greater opportunities for future generations.
Today, as the founder of Life Protector Limited, my mission is to help others avoid the mistakes I made and achieve their financial goals sooner. I am passionate about helping first-home buyers, migrants, families, and everyday New Zealanders navigate the often-confusing world of mortgages, insurance, budgeting, and financial planning.
